It all started when…
On January 9th, 2024, international Trumpeter, Songwriter and Recording Artist Ryan Montaño released his latest record entitled "Enchanted Lands", a song dedicated to his home state of New Mexico, the Land Of Enchantment.
"Originally, 'Enchanted Lands' was a song that I wanted to release interstitially between national radio campaigns," said Montaño. "For the past two years, I've been releasing songs every 6-8 months with each song backed by a national radio advertising campaign. 'Enchanted Lands' was promoted exclusively on my streaming and social media channels without any national radio or advertising promotions."
The Reception…
In a little over two months since its grassroots release, the reception for "Enchanted Lands" has been considerable. The song has accumulated 340,000+ streams on Amazon Music alone with placements on several of the streaming platform's largest editorial playlists. It was through placement on these Amazon playlists that Jay Lang, General Manager for the Billboard-reporting station "Smooth 88.1 WHOV" in Hampton VA, first heard the ABQ trumpeter's new song. Lang resonated with the song so much, he added it to the to the station’s programming under heavy rotation. These accolades were achieved without any formal radio or promotional advertising attached to the song.
Moving Forward…
Because of this exceptional industry response, "Enchanted Lands", began formal national radio promotion on March 4th, 2024. In its first week at radio, the song shared the #2 position for the most added song in the Contemporary Jazz format with over 60 terrestrial, internet and satellite stations adding “Enchanted Lands” to their daily programming. Notable adds include Sirius XM’s “Watercolors” and “The Smooth Jazz Network” with both platforms currently broadcasting the song across the entire United States.
"Enchanted Lands" was written and produced by Montaño and Kenneth Segura Knoll. The song's rhythmic foundation is rooted in classic jazz, with a latin/bossa nova-esque tinge. Montaño's warm and enveloping trumpet melodies sit perfectly atop the song's rhythms and harmonies creating an authentic soundscape consistent with the trumpeter's unique approach to the Contemporary Jazz format. Knoll describes “Enchanted Lands” as a song that “carries you off into a journey, with the improv section of the song returning you home and the closing melody letting you off gently. Genius!”
Additionally, "Enchanted Lands" is accompanied by a music video that was shot and edited by Montaño using a shooting technique called "Long-Exposure Timelapsing"; a technique of compositing several ultra high-resolution photographs shot over an extended period of time, usually at night. The Albuquerque trumpeter would spend his day recording and editing the song and then go out in the evening to capture timelapses for the music video.
"I love going out late at night with my camera and shooting different landscapes and subjects around the city (Albuquerque) and state," says Montaño. "I've found the best shots are usually found in the most difficult-to-reach places. These quiet locations have helped me to really appreciate the beauty of New Mexico. To me, these photographs are the perfect visual representations of why the lands of this state are enchanted."
The “Enchanted Lands” music video showcases different timelpases from around Albuquerque including shots of the Sandia Mountains, Route 66, downtown and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
